Berg Insight, a leading IoT market research provider, has just released new findings on the market for Electronic Monitoring (EM) of offenders, revealing some fascinating insights. According to their research, the number of participants in EM programs in Europe, North America, and Latin America has been steadily increasing. By the end of 2023, there were approximately 64,000 participants in Europe, 518,000 in North America, and 130,000 in Latin America.

The total number of participants in EM programs for the full year of 2023 reached 200,000 in Europe, 880,000 in North America, and 296,000 in Latin America. Berg Insight predicts that these numbers will continue to grow, with an estimated 94,000 participants in Europe, 680,000 in North America, and 239,000 in Latin America by the end of 2028.

The market value for EM programs in 2023 was US$ 226 million in Europe, US$ 1.3 billion in North America, and US$ 76 million in Latin America. The total market value in these regions is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 7.2 percent, reaching US$ 2.3 billion by 2028.

EM programs have become a popular alternative to detention in many countries, with the aim of increasing offender accountability, reducing recidivism rates, and enhancing public safety. The use of electronic monitoring technologies, such as Radio Frequency (RF) and GPS, has been on the rise, with GPS-based solutions becoming more prevalent in countries like the US and Brazil.
