In 2024, a Lesser-Known Caribbean Island is Shattering Tourism Records

The Island of Anguilla is making waves in the tourism industry, with a significant increase in visitor numbers in 2024. According to the Anguilla Tourist Board, the country welcomed 62,188 travelers in the first quarter, marking a 22.2 percent increase from 2023. This growth can be attributed to the rise in American and Canadian tourists, with 41,399 Americans and 4,689 Canadians visiting the island so far this year.

In December 2023, Anguilla broke records with 19,178 arrivals, showcasing a 27.9 percent increase from the previous year. To further boost tourism, the government is investing in infrastructure improvements, including renovations at the Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport and the opening of a new ferry terminal at Blowing Point.

Stacey Liburd, Director of Tourism for Anguilla, credits the island’s success to collaboration with stakeholders and expanded marketing efforts. The country aims to attract more visitors by introducing new destination pillars and tapping into new markets to boost arrivals and occupancy rates.

Anguilla’s economy heavily relies on luxury tourism, offshore banking, and lobster fishing, with foreign investment playing a crucial role in its economic growth. The government’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and enhancing the visitor experience reflects its dedication to positioning Anguilla as a premier tourist destination in the Caribbean.
