The Caribbean tourism industry, once on the brink of collapse due to international travel restrictions during the pandemic, has made an astonishing comeback. At the recent Caribbean Travel Marketplace in Jamaica, leaders revealed that the region not only fully recovered but is now thriving.
In 2023, Caribbean destinations welcomed a staggering 33.2 million travelers, a 14.3% increase from the previous year. The region is also in the process of adding 14,000 new hotel rooms, with a projected growth of 5-10% in the coming years.
Jamaica, one of the standout performers, saw over 1 million travelers in the first two months of 2024, bringing in $1 billion in tourism revenue. The country aims to receive five million visitors and earn $5 billion by 2025, with plans to add 2,000 new hotel rooms.
Saint Lucia and Turks & Caicos are also experiencing a tourism boom, with record-breaking numbers of visitors and revenue. Saint Lucia plans to add 2,000 hotel rooms and expand port facilities to accommodate more cruise passengers.
Belize has seen the fastest growth rate in the Caribbean, surpassing traditional hotspots like the Dominican Republic and Curacao. The country has experienced a 30% increase in international travelers in 2024.
Cancun and the Dominican Republic are also setting new arrival records, with millions of travelers visiting these popular destinations. The Dominican Republic is projected to surpass 11 million visitors in 2024, a milestone never seen before.
