In April, Ghana’s Inflation Decreases Slightly to 25.0 Percent

The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has reported a decrease in the country’s year-on-year inflation rate, dropping to 25.0 per cent in April from 25.8 per cent in March. The month-on-month inflation rate between March and April stood at 1.8 per cent.

According to data released by the GSS to the Ghanaian Times in Accra, the decline in the April inflation rate was attributed to a drop in the food inflation rate. Food inflation rate fell by 2.1 per cent to 26.8 per cent in April from 29.6 per cent in March.

Specific food items such as vegetables, tubers, plantains, cooking bananas, and pulses recorded inflation rates above the national average of 26.8 per cent. On the other hand, cereals and cereal products, milk and other dairy products, and eggs had inflation rates below the national average.

Non-food inflation increased by 1.5 per cent to 23.5 per cent in April from 22.6 per cent in March. Categories such as restaurants and accommodation, personal care, and social protection recorded inflation rates above the national average, while information and communication, transport, and financial services had rates below the average.

Inflation for locally produced items decreased to 25.7 per cent in April from 26.6 per cent in March, while the inflation rate for imported items also saw a decline. Overall, the data reflects a mixed picture of inflation trends in Ghana for the month of April.
