Spring Break Weather Puts Local Baseball and Softball Teams on Pause

ELKINS — As area schools enjoyed their spring break this week, the weather had different plans for the baseball and softball teams, forcing games to be postponed or canceled.

The Elkins High School baseball team, currently 2-2 on the season, had three games wiped out this week due to the inclement weather. The Tigers last saw action on March 28, securing a thrilling extra-inning victory over Robert C. Byrd.

Philip Barbour and Tygarts Valley also found themselves idle for over a week, with their last games taking place against Tucker County and Trinity, respectively.

Buckhannon-Upshur and Tucker County were the only local teams to hit the field this week. The Bucs traveled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for a series of games, while the Mountain Lions faced off against Moorefield on Thursday evening.

Softball games faced similar fate, with Elkins and Philip Barbour being the only teams to play last Thursday.

In other news, the WVSSAC has announced sectional and regional alignments for the next four years, starting in the 2024-25 school year. The new alignments will see four classes in place for volleyball, basketball, baseball, and softball.

With the weather hopefully clearing up soon, local teams are eager to get back on the field and resume their seasons.
