The latest travel data for Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has been revealed, showing a significant rise in the number of arrivals. With the high seasons approaching, Bali is optimistic that 2024 will be the year travel numbers surpass pre-pandemic levels.
In April 2024, the airport served 1,940,828 passengers, with 1,109,958 international passengers and 830,870 domestic passengers. This marked a 19% increase compared to March 2024. The positive trend was attributed to public holidays and annual leave for Indonesian tourists during the Idul Fitri Holiday.
The General Manager of the airport, Handy Heryudhitiawan, highlighted that the Eid period not only boosted passenger numbers but also increased aircraft movements by 11% compared to March 2024.
As the World Water Forum approaches with an estimated 35,000 attendees, Bali is on track to meet its tourism targets for 2024. The busiest domestic routes in April were from Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar, while the busiest international routes were from Kuala Lumpur, Perth, and Melbourne.
European tourists are increasingly choosing Bali as a destination, prompting calls for more direct flights from Europe. The Indonesian Minister for Tourism and Creative Economies, Sandiaga Uno, emphasized the importance of a strong tourism ecosystem that benefits both locals and tourists.
As Bali continues to attract global attention, efforts are being made to ensure the island remains a top tourism destination while cracking down on criminal activities to maintain its reputation. With the tourism industry booming, Bali is set to see even more growth in the coming months.
