Dubai and Abu Dhabi have long been popular vacation destinations for people from the Indian subcontinent. However, recent reports suggest that travelers need to meet certain criteria to be able to visit these two cities, or they may risk being sent back from the airport.
According to sources, Abu Dhabi and Dubai airports have increased their scrutiny of incoming passengers, especially those arriving from airports in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Travelers are now required to have a minimum of Rs 60,000 in their bank account or credit card, as well as a return ticket, in order to clear immigration.
In some cases, tourists have been deported back to their home countries from the airport itself for not meeting these criteria. This strict enforcement is aimed at preventing the misuse of tourist visas by individuals who may not have the means to support themselves during their stay in the UAE.
The responsibility of deporting passengers who do not meet the criteria falls on the airlines, leading to longer check-in times at Indian airports, particularly in Chennai and Kerala, for travelers heading to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Airlines are also taking steps to ensure that passengers meet the requirements set by UAE authorities to avoid any deportation issues. Reports suggest that passengers between the ages of 20 to 35 are more likely to face scrutiny by airlines.
The UAE’s decision to tighten immigration norms comes after instances of travelers arriving without sufficient funds or accommodation, and some even overstaying their visas. Basheer Ahmed of Chennai Metro Travels explained, “Inspections are being conducted because it was discovered that individuals are using tourist visas to enter the UAE for employment. Some cancel their return tickets and overstay. Immigration officials, who were lenient until recently, have now increased their scrutiny. Genuine tourists, families, and group travelers will not be affected by these measures.”
The increased scrutiny at airports is part of the UAE’s efforts to curb visa misuse and ensure that visitors comply with immigration regulations. Travelers are advised to make sure they have the necessary funds and documentation before embarking on their trip to Dubai or Abu Dhabi to avoid any issues at the airport.
Overall, while these new measures may cause some inconvenience for travelers, they are ultimately aimed at maintaining the integrity of the visa system and ensuring a smooth travel experience for genuine tourists visiting the UAE.
