Security arrangements in New York are being ramped up ahead of the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan on June 9 at Eisenhower Park in Long Island. Governor Kathy Hochul assured the public that there are currently no credible threats to the tournament or the match.
However, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder emphasized that they are not taking any chances when it comes to security for the event. Ryder mentioned that the police department received threats linked to ISIL in Afghanistan in April, specifically targeting the India-Pakistan match. As a result, the department has implemented numerous precautions, including adding 100 additional police officers to ensure the safety of attendees.
The New York City Police Department also issued a bulletin highlighting the importance of heightened vigilance during the tournament, as extremists may view the event as an opportunity for violence or disruption. Despite these concerns, Governor Hochul and law enforcement officials are committed to ensuring the safety of all those attending the matches.
The United States is co-hosting the ICC World Cup for the first time, with New York hosting several matches at the purpose-built modular stadium. With security measures being significantly increased for the tournament, officials are working diligently to make sure that the event is not only enjoyable but also safe for all participants and spectators.
