India Coach Application Deadline Closes: Top Foreign Candidates Not in the Running, VVS Laxman Declines, Gautam Gambhir…

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The deadline for applying for the post of Indian men’s cricket team chief coach ended on Monday, with no top foreign names applying for the position. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had expressed interest in former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who recently led the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third IPL trophy.

Despite the speculation surrounding Gambhir, both the BCCI and the former cricketer have remained tight-lipped about the development. It is believed that the BCCI is looking for a candidate who has a strong understanding of the domestic structure and has risen through the ranks.

VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, was rumored to be the BCCI’s primary target for the position. However, Laxman seems uninterested in a full-time role that would require him to be available for 10 months a year.

With the World T20 tournament approaching, the BCCI may take more time before making a decision on the new coach. Additionally, Gambhir’s close relationship with KKR principal owner Shah Rukh Khan may also play a role in his decision to stay with the IPL team.

The opinions of senior India players, currently in New York, will also be taken into consideration when determining whether Gambhir is the right fit to replace Rahul Dravid as the head coach.

As the BCCI continues its search for a new coach, the cricketing world eagerly awaits the announcement of who will lead the Indian men’s team in the upcoming matches.
