India placed 39th in ranking, with USA leading the list

India’s Global Travel & Tourism Index Rank Up at 39th

India has made significant progress in the global travel and tourism sector, as per the World Economic Forum’s 2nd edition of the Travel & Tourism Development Index (TTDI 2024). With a TTDI score of 4.25, India is now ranked 39th among 119 economies, showcasing a notable improvement from its 54th position in TTDI 2021.

The United States of America (USA) has secured the top spot on the list with a TTDO score of 5.24, followed by Spain (5.18) and Japan (5.09) at the 2nd and 3rd ranks respectively. India’s ranking as the highest in South Asia and among the lower-middle-income economies highlights its growing prominence in the global travel and tourism industry.

The TTDI 2024, compiled in collaboration with the University of Surrey in the UK, covers various factors and policies related to the travel and tourism sectors of 119 countries. India’s strong price competitiveness and competitive air transport, ground, and port infrastructure have contributed to its improved ranking. Additionally, India’s high rankings in natural, cultural, and non-leisure resources further solidify its position as a top player in the industry.

The global scenario also reflects positive trends, with West Asia experiencing the highest recovery in international tourist arrivals, surpassing 2019 levels by 20%. High-income economies generally have more favorable conditions for travel and tourism development, with several developing nations also showing notable improvements in their TTDI scores.

Overall, India’s upward trajectory in the global travel and tourism index signifies its growing importance as a key player in the industry, with promising prospects for further growth and development in the coming years.
