India Calls for Revitalisation of United Nations General Assembly and Global Governance Reforms

India has urged for the revitalisation of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and reforms in the global governance architecture. Minister at the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, Pratik Mathur, emphasized the importance of respecting the UNGA as the primary deliberative and representative organ of the UN.

Mathur highlighted the need to restore the sanctity of the Annual General Debate and its associated elements for the revitalisation of the General Assembly. He emphasized the inclusive nature of the UNGA and the principle of sovereign equality of all its constituents.

The minister stressed the importance of evolving working methods to reflect changing circumstances and realities. He emphasized the need to enhance the role of the General Assembly as the chief deliberative, policy-making, and representative organ of the United Nations.
