Indian athletes aim to make a mark in World Relays following successful 2023 season

The Indian athletics contingent is gearing up for the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24, with hopes of securing a spot in the Paris Olympics in three events. The 15-member strong team will be looking to make a mark in Nassau, with the men’s 4×400 relay team leading the charge.

After impressive performances at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo and the World Championships in Budapest, where they challenged the USA’s dominance, the Indian team clinched gold at the Hangzhou Asian Games with a stellar run of 3:01.58. Now, they are aiming to break the national and Asian record of 2:59.05 seconds set in Budapest.

With the top two teams in each heat advancing to the final and securing Olympic quotas for Paris 2024, the pressure is on for the Indian squad to deliver their best performance. The men’s quartet, including Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Anas Yahiya, Muhammad Ajmal, and Rajesh Ramesh, will be looking to build on their success from last year.

In addition to the men’s team, India will also be fielding strong squads in the women’s and mixed 4x400m relays. With seasoned athletes like MR Poovamma and Vithya Ramraj leading the charge, the Indian contingent is poised to make a strong statement at the World Relays.

Overall, India will have a total of 32 teams competing in the men’s 4x400m, 27 teams in the women’s event, and 30 teams in the mixed relay. The stage is set for an exciting weekend of athletics action in Nassau, as the Indian athletes aim to secure their spots in the upcoming Paris Olympics.
