Indian athletes Brijesh, Sagar, and Sumit secure medals at Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championship on April 29

Indian boxers Brijesh Tamta, Sagar Jakhar, and Sumit have secured medals for India at the ASBC Asian U-22 & Youth Boxing Championships 2024 in Astana, Kazakhstan. Brijesh fought a tough battle against Uzbekistan’s Sabirov Sayfiddin, ultimately winning the match in the third round. Sagar and Sumit also dominated their opponents, securing 5-0 victories.

With these victories, India now has a total of eight medals in the youth category. Five women boxers are set to compete in the semifinals, including Annu, Parthavi Grewal, Nikita Chand, Khushi Pooniya, and Nirjhara Bana. Additionally, male boxers Rahul Kundu, Hemant Sangwan, Lakshay Rathi, Laxmi, Tamanna, Yatri Patel, and Shrusthi Sathe will be competing in the quarterfinals.

On Tuesday, Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti will begin her challenge in the women’s U-22 category. She will be joined by Tammana and Priyanka. In the men’s U-22 category, Vishvanath Suresh, Akash Gorkha, Preet Malik, Kunal, Jugnoo, and Rhythm will be in action.

The finals for the youth and U-22 categories are scheduled for May 6 and 7, respectively. The Indian boxers have shown great skill and determination in the championships, and fans are eagerly awaiting their performances in the upcoming matches.
