Indian nationals, Manivannan and Mahalakshmi, along with their three-month-old grandchild, were tragically killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Ontario on Monday. The heartbreaking incident occurred during a police car chase that resulted in a fatal accident involving six vehicles.

The Consulate General in Toronto expressed their condolences for the loss of the Indian nationals and confirmed that Consul General Siddhartha Nath had met with the bereaved family at the hospital to offer assistance. The Indian authorities are in touch with Canadian officials regarding the tragic incident.

The collision took place in the town of Whitby, where the Durham Regional Police Service was pursuing a cargo van following a robbery at an alcohol outlet. The van entered a highway in the wrong direction, leading to the fatal accident.

Among the injured were the parents of the deceased infant, who were residents of Ajax. The mother sustained serious injuries and was treated at the hospital, while the father was also taken for treatment. The driver of the van and a male passenger were also involved in the collision, with the driver losing his life and the passenger being hospitalized for serious injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is currently investigating the case due to the involvement of police vehicles in the incident. The SIU is responsible for probing incidents involving officials that result in death, serious injury, sexual assault, or the discharge of a firearm at a person.

As the investigation continues, the tragic loss of the Indian nationals in the collision has left the community in mourning and seeking answers about the circumstances that led to this devastating event.
