Indian Mangoes Spark “Mango Mania” in South Bay

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Shastha Foods in San Jose, California, is causing a stir in the South Bay with its latest offering of Indian mangoes. The company, known for its Indian food products, has imported a variety of mangoes from India, much to the delight of the local Indian community and mango enthusiasts.

The demand for these Indian mangoes has been so high that over 1,100 people lined up outside Shastha’s warehouse for the company’s “Mangofest” event. Customers were treated to free tastings of the different varieties of mangoes available, showcasing the rich diversity of flavors and textures that Indian mangoes are known for.

Syamala Raghuram, co-founder and president of Shastha Foods, expressed the emotional connection that Indians have with mangoes, describing them as more than just a fruit but a cherished memory of summer seasons in India. The company has made it a mission to bring this experience to a wider audience, including Americans who may not be familiar with the wide range of Indian mango varieties.

The success of Shastha’s mango events can be attributed in part to the influence of local Instagram celebrity Ronil California, who promoted the tastings to his large following. The events have drawn crowds eager to taste the authentic flavors of Indian mangoes, which are often hard to find in American supermarkets.

With the mango season in full swing, Shastha Foods plans to continue hosting weekly tastings until late June, giving more people the opportunity to experience the joy of biting into a ripe, juicy Indian mango. The company’s efforts to showcase the diversity and richness of Indian mangoes are resonating with customers, both Indian and non-Indian alike, who are eager to savor the unique flavors of this beloved fruit.
