The Indian government is mourning the tragic death of 24-year-old Indian student Chirag Antil, who was murdered in Vancouver, Canada. Antil had arrived in Canada in 2022 to pursue an MBA course at the University of Canada West and was on a work permit after completing his studies.

The incident took place late on Friday night in Vancouver’s Sunset neighborhood, where Antil lived and worked. The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) responded to reports of gunshots and found Antil deceased inside a vehicle on East 55th Avenue and Main Street.

No arrests have been made yet, and the VPD is actively investigating the case. India’s Consulate in Vancouver expressed deep sorrow over the shooting and killing of Antil and has reached out to Canadian authorities for more information.

An online fundraiser has been set up to cover the costs of repatriating Antil’s remains to India. The fundraiser, created by Anurag Dahiya, highlighted Antil’s journey to Canada for his studies and the need for support in sending his body back to his home country.

Varun Choudhary, the National Students’ Union of India’s national president, called for urgent attention from the Ministry of External Affairs to monitor the investigation and ensure justice for Antil’s family. The tragic murder of Chirag Antil has sparked outrage and calls for support for his grieving loved ones during this difficult time.
