Indian space technology startup plans to deploy six satellites in 2024 using ISRO and SpaceX rockets

Bengaluru-based space tech startup Pixxel is gearing up for a major milestone in 2024 with the launch of six satellites using rockets from both the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and SpaceX. The company’s CEO, Awais Ahmed, revealed that Pixxel plans to utilize SpaceX’s rideshare missions as well as ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) for these upcoming launches.

The decision on which rocket to use will depend on the readiness of Pixxel’s satellites and the availability of launch windows. Ahmed explained, “We are likely to have launches on both SpaceX and PSLV. However, this will depend on our satellite readiness and the launch schedules.”

Earlier this year, Pixxel unveiled its MegaPixxel facility in Bangalore, a 30,000-square-foot space dedicated to satellite production and launch activities. The company announced its plan to launch six hyperspectral imagery satellites as part of a larger constellation aimed at serving industries such as agriculture, energy, forestry, and environmental monitoring.

Pixxel’s MegaPixxel facility has the capacity to produce up to 40 large satellites annually, with the team currently working on nine satellites. Ahmed mentioned that they are looking to add more satellites in the latter half of this year and into next year.

Pixxel previously launched its Shakuntala satellite in 2022 using SpaceX’s Falcon-9 rocket, marking the third satellite launch for the company. With the upcoming launches in 2024, Pixxel is poised to make significant strides in the space tech industry, leveraging the capabilities of both SpaceX and ISRO to expand its satellite constellation and support various sectors with cutting-edge technology.
