Indianapolis teacher, Carol Pierobon-Hofer, has been awarded the prestigious National Education Association Foundation’s 2024 Horace Mann Award for teaching excellence. This award recognizes educators who show exceptional dedication to serving their communities through public education. Pierobon-Hofer, an English as a New Language teacher at Foxhill Elementary School in Washington Township, is one of five educators nationwide to receive this honor.

In an interview with Daybreak, Pierobon-Hofer expressed her gratitude for the award, acknowledging the support of her fellow teachers and emphasizing the need for more recognition of outstanding educators. The NEA Foundation praised the award winners as exemplary individuals who inspire and make a significant impact in their school communities.

Pierobon-Hofer’s work with a diverse student population, including those with refugee status and 16 different home languages, showcases her commitment to inclusive education. She believes in building personal connections with students to motivate and engage them in learning.

As a recipient of an NEA grant, Pierobon-Hofer recently took students on a trip to Mongolia and will be honored at the Salute to Excellence in Education gala in Washington D.C. in May. Additionally, WISH-TV recognizes exceptional teachers in central Indiana with the Golden Apple Award, which includes a trophy, a school supply shopping spree, and a surprise visit from the News 8 team.
