Indiana’s FAFSA completion rate drops as important deadline nears

As the deadline for Indiana students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) approaches, only one-third of the Class of 2024 has finished the form so far. According to the National College Attainment Network, 32.6% of Indiana high school seniors had submitted the FAFSA as of late March, which is lower than last year’s submission rate.

The FAFSA is crucial for students to access federal financial aid, state aid, and scholarships for college. This year, the form has seen lower completion rates across the U.S. due to changes in the application process and technical glitches. Despite these challenges, Indiana leaders are pushing for more students to complete the FAFSA to increase college enrollment rates.

A new state law now requires students to fill out the FAFSA, with a goal of 60% completion for the Class of 2024. Schools, nonprofits, and the state are working together to provide resources and assistance to students in completing the form before the April 15 deadline.

Students who miss the deadline can still submit the FAFSA and appeal for state aid consideration. Community organizations, schools, and resources like InvestED and the U.S. Department of Education are available to help students and families navigate the FAFSA process.

Overall, completing the FAFSA is essential for students to access financial aid opportunities for higher education. With support and guidance, Indiana aims to increase FAFSA completion rates and help more students pursue postsecondary education.
