Southern Indians Dominate East Liverpool in Cold Weather Matchup

Despite the cold and windy conditions, the Southern Indians powered their way to a 16-3 victory over the East Liverpool Potters in a five-inning game on Friday. The win improved Southern’s record to 3-2, while East Liverpool fell to 0-4.

Southern’s starting pitcher, Alexis Ensinger, led the charge both on the mound and at the plate. Ensinger recorded 11 strikeouts and four walks while also contributing two hits, including a crucial single in the second inning that helped the Indians build an early 8-0 lead.

The Indians’ hitting was on full display, with Cheyenne Buzzard also collecting two hits, including a double that extended Southern’s lead to 11-0 in the second inning. Southern’s coach, Brent Boyle, attributed the team’s success to their dedication to practicing hitting fundamentals during the week of rain-induced game cancellations.

On the other side, East Liverpool struggled to generate offense, managing only one hit throughout the game. The Potters’ starting pitcher, Tatum Fink, and reliever, Cate Davis, faced challenges on the mound, allowing a total of 16 runs on nine hits.

Despite the tough loss, East Liverpool coach Ryian Burson found some positives in his team’s performance, noting an improvement in their fielding compared to previous games. The game was briefly delayed in the first inning due to sleet and snow, adding an extra element of challenge for both teams.

Looking ahead, East Liverpool will play a doubleheader at Sandy Valley, while Southern will host Wellsville in their next matchup. The Indians will aim to carry their momentum from this dominant win into future games as they continue their season.
