Indian Athletics Contingent Eyes Paris Olympics Qualification at World Athletics Relays

A 15-member strong Indian athletics contingent is all set to showcase their talent at the World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas, with hopes of securing qualification for the Paris Olympics in three events. The two-day event kicks off on Saturday, and the Indian squad is geared up to make a mark on the international stage.

The Indian men’s 4×400 relay team has been in fine form, impressing with their performances at the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo and challenging the USA’s dominance at the World Championships in Budapest. Their gold-winning run at the Hangzhou Asian Games further solidified their reputation as a formidable team.

The squad, comprising athletes like Amoj Jacob, Muhammad Anas, and Rajiv Arokia, will be aiming to break the national and Asian record set in Budapest last year. With a season’s best of 3:05.71 seconds, they have their work cut out for them to achieve their goal of 2:59.05 seconds.

The World Relay format for Paris offers a chance for the top two teams in each heat to secure Olympic quotas for 2024. India will be fielding teams in men’s, women’s, and mixed 4x400m relays, with the men’s team being the frontrunners based on their stellar performances in the past.

Fans can catch all the action live on the World Athletics YouTube channel, as there will be no TV broadcast in India. The schedule of Indians in action includes various heats and finals spread across May 5 and 6, all in Indian Standard Time (IST).

As the Indian contingent takes on the world’s best in Nassau, the hopes of a nation rest on their shoulders as they aim to secure their spot at the prestigious Paris Olympics.
