Indigenous Leader to be Recognized for Business Achievements – The Brock News

Brock University is set to honor Jonathan Davey, a proud member of the Lower Cayuga of Six Nations of the Grand River and Chief of Staff to the President and CEO of Scotiabank, as the Indigenous Leader Speaker Series honouree. Davey, a Brock graduate, will share his journey to business success during a webinar on June 20, ahead of National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.

Robyn Bourgeois, Brock University’s Vice-Provost, Indigenous Engagement, expressed that Davey was an obvious choice for this year’s leader due to his remarkable success in the business community. Davey’s professional experience includes creating specialized Indigenous client solutions at Scotiabank and serving as Federal Crown counsel in the Aboriginal Law Division of the Department of Justice Canada.

In addition to his impressive career achievements, Davey holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Cornell University and a Juris Doctorate from Osgoode Hall Law School. He has also been named one of Canada’s Top 40 under 40 by PwC and Calwell Partners.

Goodman Dean Barry Wright, who taught Davey in an undergraduate leadership class at Brock, expressed excitement about having him as the 2024 Indigenous Leader. The event is part of the fourth annual Indigenous Leader Speaker Series, which has previously honored individuals such as Karen MacKenzie, Mallory Yawnghwe, and Jenn Harper.
