Indonesia and Iran collaborate on agricultural technology partnership

The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture and Iran have joined forces to enhance Indonesia’s agricultural sector through technological and scientific cooperation, aiming to boost food productivity in a sustainable manner.

During a meeting with Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in Jakarta, Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Boroujerdi highlighted Iran’s advanced high-tech irrigation systems and food preservation technology. Boroujerdi mentioned various technologies possessed by Iran, including production storage machines, planting machines, preservation machines, and water propulsion systems.

“We even have other technologies for agriculture, and we will share our experiences in this field,” Boroujerdi stated.

The collaboration will focus on strengthening mechanization, pumping systems, and utilizing swamp land to increase food productivity. Boroujerdi also expressed interest in promoting food import and export exchanges with Indonesia, particularly in the horticulture subsector.

Minister Sulaiman acknowledged Iran’s technological advancements in agriculture and emphasized the importance of increasing rice and corn production in Indonesia. He highlighted the need for quick solutions to anticipate El Nino, including pumping technology and processing swamp land.

Sulaiman expressed optimism that the cooperation with Iran would help Indonesia achieve food self-sufficiency and potentially become the world’s food basket in the future.

“Our target in the next two years is to achieve self-sufficiency, and then Indonesia will become the world’s food basket,” Sulaiman emphasized.

The partnership between Indonesia and Iran in the agricultural sector is expected to bring mutual benefits and contribute to the sustainable development of both countries.
