Indonesian Ministry Encourages Increased Investment from Turkish Entrepreneurs

The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs is making moves to boost investment in Indonesia, particularly in the food processing sector. Around 150 Turkish food processing entrepreneurs were invited to explore investment opportunities in Indonesia by the ministry’s Deputy for Food and Agribusiness Coordination, Dida Gardera.

During a visit to the 2024 IDMA in Istanbul, Turkey, Gardera met with representatives from the Turkish Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ITO) to discuss potential collaborations. The IDMA is an international exhibition that showcases machinery and milling technology for industries that use processed grains like rice, corn, wheat, sorghum, beans, and feed.

Gardera highlighted the importance of the agricultural sector in Indonesia’s economic growth and emphasized the need for increased investment, especially in the face of global food insecurity threats. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by Turkish businessmen in navigating the investment process in Indonesia but assured them of the government’s commitment to facilitating solutions.

With shared cultural and religious ties between Indonesia and Turkey, Gardera expressed optimism about the potential for Turkish entrepreneurs to invest in Indonesia’s food sector, including dairy products like cheese and yogurt, as well as introducing Turkish hazelnuts to the Indonesian market.

The IDMA exhibition itself aimed to achieve an export transaction target of US$500 million, showcasing the potential for fruitful collaborations between Turkish and Indonesian businesses. As both countries work towards strengthening trade agreements and logistical support, the future looks promising for increased investment and economic growth in Indonesia’s food processing industry.
