Innovative Approaches to Incorporating Technology in Language Education Showcased at Conference

The 12th OpenTESOL International Hybrid Conference held at HCM City Open University on May 25 highlighted the importance of innovative approaches and technology in language education. The conference, themed ‘Nurturing Open Minds, Shaping Inclusive Futures In Language Education’, brought together over 300 experts, scholars, and educators from more than 30 countries.

Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Minh Hà, the president of HCM City Open University, emphasized the need to create an environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and diversity in language education. The conference featured discussions on the application of artificial intelligence in personalizing learning experiences, creativity in teaching methods, and the impact of technology on language learning.

Dr. Nina Kang from the University of Southern California shared insights on adapting English language teaching practices in the era of Artificial Intelligence. She highlighted trends such as personalized learning, micro-learning, mobile learning, gamification, and extended reality, emphasizing the benefits of AI in enhancing language practice and learning experiences.

Prof. Howard Nicholas from Latrobe University in Australia stressed the connection between teacher agency and learner agency, emphasizing the role of teachers in fostering student empowerment and growth. The conference aimed to equip participants with the latest theories, strategies, and tools to create inclusive and empowering classrooms for all learners.

The HCM City Open University, known for its flexible and accessible learning programs, has been hosting the OpenTESOL International Conference series since 2012. The conference serves as a platform for sharing effective teaching methods, fostering a network of educators, and bridging the gap between local and international language education communities.
