Reading Time: < 1 minute

Sylvester Stallone, best known for his iconic role as Rocky Balboa, made headlines this week as his highly anticipated collection of rare and vintage watches went up for auction. The 11-piece collection fetched an impressive $6.7 million, surpassing original pre-sale estimates.

The star of the show was the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, which shattered records by becoming the most expensive modern watch ever sold through Sotheby’s. Initially expected to sell for between $2.5 million and $5 million, the watch received an offer of $5.4 million, ultimately being won by a private collector based in Asia.

Geoff Hess, Sotheby’s head of watches, Americas, described the sale as a “celebration” of both the technical excellence of Swiss watchmakers and Stallone’s influence as a collector. In a video posted on Instagram, five bidders engaged in a fierce bidding war that lasted nearly four minutes in front of a crowd of over 100 attendees.

Stallone, who has been a passionate watch collector for many years, expressed his gratitude for the experience of owning remarkable timepieces with unique histories and characters. The actor emphasized the importance of the collecting process and the emotional connection that enthusiasts have with their watches.

Aside from the Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime, Stallone’s collection also included watches from luxury brands like Cartier, Rolex, Piaget, and Panerai. The auction showcased the enduring appeal of vintage and rare watches, attracting collectors from around the world who appreciate the craftsmanship and history behind these timeless pieces.
