In celebration of International Women’s Day, a panel of extraordinary women leaders gathered for a special edition of Insurance News Analysis to discuss the progress being made towards gender equality in the insurance industry.

The panel highlighted the challenges in recruiting, retaining, and promoting women in the industry. While attracting women to the field is not an issue, there is a struggle in advancing them into leadership roles. Gunjali Rana, Assistant Vice President of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at CNA, emphasized the importance of addressing pay disparities and other gaps to achieve true gender equality.

Insurance companies are now implementing programs dedicated to increasing the representation of women and diverse groups in the industry. Trina Bowser, a member of the Black Insurance Industry Collective Leadership Council, discussed how the BIIC partners with companies to create mentorship and sponsorship programs.

The panel also addressed the issue of caretaking responsibilities, with 70% of the global workforce carrying such responsibilities. They shared tactics to help women balance work and caregiving responsibilities to advance their careers.

Furthermore, the panel discussed the insurance industry’s responsibility in providing inclusive insurance and shared inspirational stories of women who have lived without limits.

As the session concluded, the panel wished everyone a Happy International Women’s Day, emphasizing the theme “Be Without Limits” for this year’s celebration. It was a powerful discussion highlighting the importance of gender equality and diversity in the insurance industry.
