Investigation into the source of ketamine in Matthew Perry’s death underway – NBC Los Angeles

The investigation into the source of the ketamine found in actor Matthew Perry’s system continues as authorities work to uncover more details surrounding his tragic death. Perry, best known for his role in the hit show “Friends,” was found unresponsive in the pool at his residence in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades area on October 28.

The Los Angeles Police Department, in collaboration with the Drug Enforcement Administration, is actively pursuing leads to determine where the drug supplied to Perry originated. TMZ reported that investigators have reached out to individuals in Hollywood with a history of drug use in hopes of shedding light on the source of the ketamine.

Perry’s death was ruled to be an accident by the coroner’s office, with the cause attributed to the acute effects of ketamine. The autopsy report also mentioned contributing factors such as drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, a drug used to treat opioid use disorder.

Despite being on ketamine infusion therapy to manage depression and anxiety, the autopsy revealed that the ketamine found in Perry’s system at the time of death could not have been from his most recent therapy session. The report highlighted the dangers of high levels of ketamine, which can lead to cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.

Perry, who had been open about his struggles with addiction, had reportedly been clean for 19 months prior to his passing. In his memoir, he described the effects of ketamine as a “giant happy shovel” but acknowledged the harsh hangover that followed.
