Ipswich Returns to Premier League after 20 Years; Tom Brady’s Birmingham Faces Relegation

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Ipswich Town Football Club made history on Saturday by securing their promotion to the Premier League for the first time since 2002. The team clinched the second automatic promotion spot from the Championship after defeating Huddersfield 2-0 in their final match of the regular season.

The victory sparked celebrations at Portman Road, with fans flooding the pitch to celebrate the long-awaited return to the top flight. This achievement marks Ipswich’s second consecutive promotion, a remarkable turnaround since Kieran McKenna took over as manager in December 2021 when the team was in the third tier.

Leeds United, the only team that could have overtaken Ipswich for the second promotion spot, fell short after losing 2-1 to Southampton. Ipswich’s resurgence comes after years of financial struggles and a relegation to the third tier in 2019.

Under McKenna’s leadership, Ipswich has embraced an expansive and attacking style of football, propelling them back to the Premier League. The team will now join Southampton, West Bromwich Albion, and Norwich City in the playoffs for the final promotion spot, with the playoff final set to take place at Wembley Stadium on May 26.

Meanwhile, in another football news, Birmingham City, under the ownership of Brady, has faced challenges this season, including a short-lived managerial stint by former England striker Wayne Rooney. Despite the setbacks, Brady remains committed to bringing a winning mentality to the club as they aim to return to the Premier League.
