Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, made a bold statement at the United Nations, declaring that Iran is willing to de-escalate tensions with Israel if Israel agrees to halt further military actions against Tehran’s interests. This announcement comes in the wake of recent missile and drone attacks by Iran on Israeli military bases, which were described as “limited and minimal” by Amirabdollahian.
In response to an earlier Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate facility in Syria, Iran retaliated with the attacks over the weekend. Despite the majority of incoming missiles and drones being intercepted by Israel and its allies, including the US and UK, tensions remain high between the two nations.
Amirabdollahian warned that if Israel continues its “adventurism” and takes actions against Iran’s interests, the response from Iran will be immediate and at a maximum level. He emphasized that Iran has concluded its legitimate defense and countermeasures, but will not hesitate to respond decisively if provoked further.
The Foreign Minister’s visit to the UN has caused concern in the US, with calls for his visa to be revoked by a Republican lawmaker. However, the State Department has stated that his movements will be restricted during his visit.
The situation in the Middle East remains volatile, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighting the need for a resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict for lasting peace in the region. The Security Council recently voted on Palestine’s bid to become a full-fledged member of the UN, which was vetoed by the US.
As tensions continue to simmer between Iran and Israel, the international community is closely watching for any further escalations in the region.
