In a dramatic turn of events, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards seized a container ship “related to the Zionist regime (Israel) in the Gulf,” as reported by state media. The container ship, named ‘MCS Aries’, was captured by the Sepah (Guards) Navy Special Forces in a heliborne operation near the vital waterway of the Strait of Hormuz.

The tension in the region escalated further when two maritime security agencies confirmed that a vessel had been seized off the coast of the United Arab Emirates. The Royal Navy’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency stated that the vessel was seized by regional authorities near Fujairah, without providing additional details.

Security firm Ambrey reported that they observed footage of individuals fast-roping from a helicopter onto the container ship, a method previously used by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in seizing vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

The Portuguese-flagged container ship, MSC Aries, was the target of the seizure, according to vessel tracking websites. The United States responded to the escalating situation by sending military reinforcements to the region, following Iran’s vow of retaliation for a recent strike on its embassy in Syria.
