Reading Time: < 1 minute

In a stunning turn of events at the Wankhede Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) emerged victorious over Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, with former cricketer Irfan Pathan declaring that the hosts’ “story is finished” in the ongoing season.

Pathan took to his official Instagram account to express his views on MI’s performance, criticizing the team’s management and raising questions about Hardik Pandya’s captaincy. He highlighted a crucial moment in the match where MI allowed KKR to form a partnership that ultimately led to their defeat.

Despite Pandya’s two wickets and economical bowling performance, he failed to deliver with the bat, scoring just one run. On the other hand, Venkatesh Iyer and Manish Pandey’s partnership guided KKR to a total of 169, with Jasprit Bumrah impressing with a three-wicket haul for MI.

In the chase, MI faltered and were bundled out for 145, with Mitchell Starc making a remarkable comeback with figures of 4-33. Varun Chakaravarthy and Sunil Narine also played crucial roles in securing KKR’s 24-run victory.

With this win, KKR now stands in second place on the IPL 2024 standings with 14 points, while MI languishes in ninth place with just 6 points. The defeat has raised concerns about MI’s team dynamics and leadership, with Pathan emphasizing the importance of players accepting their captain for success in the tournament.
