Irish mother expresses concern over her special needs daughter facing persecution

Antoinette Burke, the mother of 17-year-old Katie who is living with cerebral palsy, shared the heartbreaking story of her daughter’s struggles on The Neil Prendeville Show on Cork’s RedFM. Katie has been enduring constant pain due to a dysplastic hip, twisted femur, pelvis, and a fracture in her pelvis, yet she has been unable to access the necessary services for her condition in Ireland.

Antoinette revealed that no doctor in Ireland is willing to treat Katie due to the complexity of her medical issues. As a result, the family has been tirelessly fundraising to send Katie to Florida for surgery, where a specific doctor is willing to help her with her injuries.

Despite their efforts, they have only raised €16,500 out of the €300,000 needed for the surgery. Antoinette expressed her frustration at the lack of support and resources available to her daughter, who is in desperate need of proper medical care.

The situation has taken a toll on Katie’s mental health, leading to her being placed on suicide watch. Antoinette’s own mental health has also suffered as she navigates the challenges of caring for her daughter.
