Is Joe Biden a liability for the Democratic Party?

President Joe Biden’s polling numbers continue to plummet, with a new Emerson College poll showing former president Donald Trump taking a narrow lead. This comes after a New York Times/Siena College poll revealed Biden trailing Trump in five out of six swing states. Despite the Biden campaign’s attempts to downplay these numbers, the reality remains that Biden is consistently behind Trump in many leading polls.

These weak numbers not only pose a threat to Biden but also to other Democrats, especially in the Senate. With Democrats holding onto a slim majority, the upcoming elections are crucial. Republicans are poised to flip a seat in West Virginia, and Democrats need to win in key states like Ohio, Montana, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, and Arizona.

Despite Biden’s poor performance, most Democrats are actually outpacing their Republican opponents in Senate races. Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, for example, has maintained a healthy lead against his Republican challenger, former hedge fund executive Dave McCormick.

In Wisconsin, Senator Tammy Baldwin has not seen much damage to her public polling despite Biden’s unpopularity. Republicans are aggressively targeting voters in the state, but their candidate, Eric Hovde, is trailing Baldwin by a significant margin.

In Arizona, Democrats are working to hold onto their Senate seat, with Marine Corps veteran Ruben Gallego leading in the polls against Republican candidate Kari Lake. However, Biden trails Trump in the state by five points.

While Democrats may face challenges in Nevada, the overall picture suggests that Biden’s poor numbers have not had a significant impact on their Senate races. This could provide some relief for Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer as the elections draw nearer.
