Is Netflix losing interest in Harry and Meghan Markle amid content strategy overhaul, signaling trouble for the Sussexes?

Netflix is reportedly losing interest in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as their $100 million content partnership may be terminated. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made headlines when they signed a deal with Netflix for their production firm, Archewell. However, their relationship with the Royal family deteriorated after explosive revelations were made in Netflix’s drama series, The Crown.

According to Royal insider Richard Fitzwilliams, the appetite for Harry and Meghan’s stories has waned after the contentious series ended. The stream giant may be less interested in the couple as their arrangement with Netflix expires next year, and The Crown will no longer be produced by the streaming service.

Despite this, Netflix has partnered with the couple for two new shows in production. Meghan will host a cookery show, while Harry will lead a series about polo. The couple’s popularity in the United States has diminished, and their Spotify podcasting agreement has also faced challenges.

Meghan is also looking to expand her brand, American Riviera Orchard, by selling cosmetics, linens, yoga equipment, and gardening supplies. The trademark application includes a range of products such as skin care preparations, bath and shower gels, cosmetics, fragrances, and more.

In response to criticism of high-budget yet poorly reviewed original films, Netflix has hired Dan Lin to lead its film production division. Lin’s role is to develop “fewer, bigger, better” films for Netflix at lower pricing, as part of a content strategy overhaul.
