Iran launched a retaliatory attack on Israel on Saturday evening, firing more than 300 missiles and drones towards the country. However, Israeli officials reported that the assault was almost entirely thwarted by air defense systems and the assistance of the U.S. and other allies. The Israel Defense Forces spokesperson stated that virtually all of the weapons were intercepted before entering Israeli territory, with only minor damage reported at one military base.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant praised the defense forces for their impressive response to the attack, with only minimal damage caused. The IDF spokesperson confirmed that out of the 170 drones launched by Iran, none crossed into Israeli territory, and only a few ballistic missiles caused minor damage at the Nevatim Air Force Base.

President Biden condemned the Iranian assault, calling it the first-ever direct attack on Israel by Iran. The U.S. forces in the region intercepted dozens of missiles and UAVs launched from Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen. The president reaffirmed America’s commitment to Israel’s security and coordinated with G7 leaders for a united diplomatic response.

The tension in the region has been escalating, with ongoing conflicts between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The Iranian attack was seen as a response to an Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate in Syria. The international community, including the EU, China, and the U.K., condemned the attack and called for restraint from all parties involved.
