Israel criticizes Irish PM for failing to mention Hamas hostages in parliament speech

Israel’s foreign ministry has expressed strong criticism towards Ireland’s new prime minister, Simon Harris, for failing to mention the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza during his recent speech to the Irish parliament. The ministry stated that Harris neglected to acknowledge the 133 Israeli hostages trapped in Hamas tunnels for the past six months, following the deadly attack on Israel by the Palestinian Islamist group on October 7.

The statement from Israel further condemned Ireland’s plans to recognize a Palestinian state and its involvement in the genocide case initiated by South Africa against Israel at the International Court of Justice. Israel believes that Ireland’s actions could potentially endorse terrorism by supporting South Africa, which it refers to as the legal arm of the Hamas terrorist organization.

In response to the criticism, Harris, the youngest-ever premier of Ireland, emphasized the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza during his address to the Irish parliament. He condemned the terrorist actions of Hamas on October 7 while also highlighting the disproportionate reaction of the Israeli government.

The conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in significant casualties, with Israeli sources reporting 1,170 deaths, predominantly civilians, and the health ministry in Gaza reporting approximately 33,482 deaths, primarily women and children. Additionally, Palestinian militants have seized around 250 hostages, with Israel claiming that 129 remain in Gaza, including 34 who are reportedly deceased.

The tensions between Israel and Ireland continue to escalate, with differing perspectives on the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the broader implications for the region.
