Israeli tanks conducted a second day of probing attacks across Rafah on Wednesday, defying international calls to end the assault on the southern Gazan city. The United States, Israel’s closest ally, reiterated its opposition to a major ground offensive in Rafah but stated that it did not believe such an operation was currently underway.

Residents reported Israeli tanks advancing into various neighborhoods in Rafah, engaging in combat with the armed wings of Hamas and the Islamic Jihad. The clashes resulted in casualties on both sides, with the Israeli military confirming the death and injury of several soldiers during the operation.

The ongoing conflict has led to the destruction of many homes in Rafah, prompting residents to flee the area following evacuation orders from Israel. Reports also emerged of unmanned robotic armored vehicles opening fire in the city, adding to the chaos and destruction.

In addition to the fighting in Rafah, Israeli tanks shelled several Gaza City neighborhoods and made incursions into Jabalia, a historic refugee camp. The escalation of violence has led to the shutdown of several hospitals in the areas where the army is operating, further straining an already overwhelmed healthcare system.

As the conflict continues to escalate, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has deteriorated, with reports of malnutrition and aid delivery challenges. International aid agencies have accused Israel of blocking distribution attempts, while Israel has blamed the agencies for the slow progress.

With no immediate end in sight to the violence, the toll on civilians continues to rise, with thousands displaced and casualties mounting. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and suffering in the region.
