Israel saves 4 captives in Gaza; Hamas reports 210 Palestinian casualties in Israeli attack

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Human rights groups have strongly condemned the Houthis’ abduction of scores of Yemenis working for the UN and US organizations in Yemen, sparking outrage and concern for the safety of those targeted.

Yemeni Human Rights Minister Ahmed Arman revealed that the Iran-backed militia had kidnapped around 50 Yemeni personnel from various UN agencies, the US Embassy, US-funded NGOs, and other foreign organizations in Sanaa. The Houthis also reportedly abducted Yemeni workers in other provinces under their control.

In response to the escalating situation, 118 Yemeni human rights organizations issued a joint statement denouncing the Houthi intelligence and security services for conducting simultaneous raids on the homes of Yemenis working for international organizations in multiple provinces. The abductions have raised alarm over the blatant disregard for national and international laws and standards, as well as the ongoing disrespect for peace efforts in the country.

The Houthis have not provided a clear explanation for their actions, but have previously accused Yemeni workers employed by foreign entities of collaborating with their enemies. The continued targeting of Yemeni UN agencies’ personnel has drawn criticism and calls for accountability from the international community.

Meanwhile, the US military reported intercepting a fresh barrage of Houthi drones and missiles over the Red Sea and Bab Al-Mandab Strait. CENTCOM forces successfully destroyed several drones and missiles launched by the Houthis, preventing any harm to navy or commercial ships in the region.

Amidst the escalating tensions, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea announced that their forces had launched drones and missiles at two ships in the Red Sea for allegedly breaching their ban on sailing to Israel. The targeted ships, including a Malta-flagged container ship and a Cyprus-flagged general cargo ship, were reportedly on their respective routes when they came under attack.

The recent incidents highlight the volatile situation in Yemen, with the Houthis engaging in aggressive actions against foreign entities and international shipping routes. The international community is closely monitoring the developments and urging all parties to prioritize dialogue and de-escalation to prevent further violence and instability in the region.
