Government officials in Malawi have announced that Israel is in need of 80,000 workers for the construction industry and an additional 3,000 workers for the agriculture sector. Minister of Information Moses Kunkuyu shared this information during a press conference in Lilongwe, highlighting the recent efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries.
The opening of the Malawi Embassy in Tel Aviv and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for Temporary Employment Workers in the Agriculture Sector demonstrate the commitment of the Malawian government to enhancing ties with Israel. Minister Kunkuyu emphasized the significance of these developments in cementing diplomatic relations.
During their visit to Israel, the Malawian delegation, led by Nancy Tembo, engaged in various discussions with Israeli officials. They met with Israel’s Foreign Minister, Israel Katz, to discuss bilateral topics and interacted with Malawian workers already employed on farms in Israel, who expressed satisfaction with the initiative.
Furthermore, the delegation met with the Israel Builders Association, who pledged to visit Malawi for the formal recruitment of workers in the construction industry. This initiative is expected to benefit 80,000 workers in Malawi. Minister Kunkuyu also mentioned discussions with airline owners in Israel to ensure affordable transportation for recruited workers.
Minister Tembo highlighted the vast opportunities in Israel across various sectors that Malawians can benefit from, emphasizing the importance of commitment and willingness to work. The Ministry of Labour will oversee the recruitment process in accordance with the agreement signed between the two countries.
