Hamas spokesman, Osama Hamdan, has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of sabotaging ceasefire efforts by rejecting a proposal that Hamas had accepted on Monday. Speaking at a press conference in Beirut, Hamdan warned that if Israel continues its military aggression in Rafah, there will be no ceasefire deal.
Hamdan emphasized that the responsibility lies with Netanyahu and his government to uphold the ceasefire agreement. He called on the US to ensure the implementation of the deal. However, Israel stated that the proposal did not meet its core demands.
As Hamas negotiates in Cairo for a ceasefire, Israel’s war cabinet has decided to intensify military operations in Rafah. Israeli Government spokesman David Mencer stated that the goal is to dismantle Hamas’ military capabilities.
The capture of the Rafah crossing by Israel has raised concerns about aid flow to Palestinians in Gaza. The UN warned of a potential humanitarian crisis, with northern Gaza facing famine. White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby expressed optimism about the negotiations but did not provide a timeline for an agreement.
Meanwhile, Palestinians in Rafah mourned the loss of loved ones killed in Israeli airstrikes. At least 23 Palestinians, including women and children, were killed in overnight attacks. The situation remains tense as activists demand the release of hostages held in Gaza.
Israel’s operation against Hamas has resulted in a significant number of Palestinian casualties. The conflict shows no signs of abating as both sides continue to engage in military actions.
