Israel has issued a warning that the ongoing war in Gaza may extend for at least seven more months, sparking global outrage. Tzachi Hanegbi, Israel’s national security adviser, stated that 2024 has been designated a “year of combat” by Israel’s war cabinet, indicating that the conflict with Hamas could last until the end of the year.

Despite mounting pressure to cease military operations, Israeli tanks were seen advancing towards Rafah, with the government emphasizing the destruction of Hamas over the return of hostages believed to be in Gaza. The recent offensive in Rafah has resulted in numerous civilian casualties, with 45 people, including children, killed and over 200 injured in the most recent airstrike.

The shelling and airstrikes have caused devastation in a refugee shelter in Rafah, where residents were living in outdoor tents. The scenes of horror include charred bodies being pulled from rubble and a man holding the headless body of a child amidst raging fires.

The conflict escalated after Hamas’ attack in October, resulting in approximately 1,200 casualties and the abduction of around 250 individuals. Israel launched a devastating offensive in response, claiming the lives of over 36,000 people, according to Palestinian officials.

As the situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate, the international community is calling for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life and suffering. The conflict shows no signs of abating, with both sides entrenched in their positions and the civilian population bearing the brunt of the violence.
