Israeli Delegation Visits Taiwan to Strengthen Ties Amid Ongoing Conflict in the Middle East

Taiwan and Israel have been strengthening their bilateral ties, with recent interactions being described as very close by Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen during a meeting with a delegation from Israel. Over the past 30 years, the two countries have signed 33 agreements to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including education and public health. A recent tourism agreement further solidified their relationship.

In a show of solidarity, Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party established a Taiwan-Israel parliamentary friendship group, and Taiwan donated US$500,000 to aid emergency responses in Israel following recent conflicts. The delegation from Israel, led by a member of the Yesh Atid party, expressed gratitude for Taiwan’s support during times of crisis.

Despite facing some backlash from the Taiwanese public, the delegation engaged in various meetings and events during their visit, including attending a Holocaust Memorial Day event. The visit highlighted the growing ties between the two nations, especially in areas like the economy and education.

Taiwan has expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Israel in technology, innovation, and defense. While there have been expressions of interest in defense cooperation, concrete plans are still in the works. Both countries aim to leverage their strengths and shared values to build more resilient global supply chains and deepen their partnership in the future.
