IT engineer from Bengaluru fired for discussing tech industry recession on Twitter, discovers job prospects through social media

Reading Time: < 1 minute

A Bengaluru-based software engineer, Jishnu Mohan, found himself out of a job after he shared his concerns about the tech industry on social media. Mohan, who had been working at Forma (formerly Twic) for four years, took to the X platform to express his unease about the recession situation in the tech sector, stating that it was the lowest point in his career.

Unfortunately, his candid tweet led to his unexpected termination on 8 February this year. However, Mohan quickly turned to social media again, this time seeking job opportunities. The response was overwhelming, with numerous users offering leads to open positions and even offering to help forward his resume.

The incident sheds light on the ongoing trend of job cuts in the tech industry, with several US firms, including giants like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, IBM, eBay, Salesforce, and Cisco, announcing layoffs in various divisions. Amazon, for example, is cutting jobs across units like Buy with Prime, Audible, Twitch, and healthcare units, while Google is laying off employees in divisions like X Lab, advertising sales, and hardware teams.

With the tech industry facing uncertainties and cost-cutting measures, the story of Jishnu Mohan serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by professionals in the sector. As companies navigate through economic uncertainties, the impact on employees like Mohan highlights the need for resilience and adaptability in the ever-evolving tech landscape.
