IUP Women’s Tennis Claims Fourth Straight PSAC Championship Title
In a thrilling match filled with twists and turns, the IUP women’s tennis team emerged victorious with a 4-2 win against Slippery Rock, securing the 2024 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship. Despite facing a weather delay and a change in location, the Crimson Hawks showed resilience and determination to clinch their fourth consecutive conference title since 2021.
This win also marked the third straight championship victory against Slippery Rock since 2022, showcasing IUP’s dominance in the conference. With this triumph, IUP has now won six of the last seven PSAC titles, solidifying their reputation as a powerhouse in women’s tennis.
The victory not only brought glory to the team but also secured an automatic bid to the Division II NCAA Championship, set to begin with regionals on May 10-11. IUP’s impressive performance throughout the season has earned them a high ranking in the latest regional standings, positioning them for a home match during the opening round of the Atlantic Region Tournament.
Head coach Andrew McGlashen expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments, emphasizing their focus on controlling the controllable and persevering for success. The match, which was temporarily halted due to rain, saw standout performances from players like Ming Deewajee, Dani Ramos, Katy Graydon, and Lydia Vlachou, who all played pivotal roles in securing the victory.
