The Williamstown tennis program continues to dominate, as both the boys and girls teams secured regional titles on Monday. The boys team claimed their fourth straight regional championship by defeating Moorefield 4-0 in the final at Lincoln High School. The Yellowjackets had previously blanked Lincoln 4-0 in the semifinals.
Meanwhile, the girls team also emerged victorious at Robert C. Byrd High School, winning their third regional title in the past four years. They shut out Notre Dame 4-0, with standout performances in the doubles division and Gabi Holl’s singles victory over Francesca Reed.
The doubles teams of Claire Strobl and Akhia Miller, Ashtyn McIntyre and Holl, and Athenn Stewart and Lauren Deem were instrumental in securing the win for the girls team. In the semifinals, they had defeated Robert C. Byrd 4-0.
Both teams have now advanced to the state tournament, scheduled for May 9-11 at Kanawha City Community Center in Charleston. The upcoming week will see individual brackets for doubles and singles entries, with the top four placewinners in each bracket also earning a spot in the state tournament.
The Williamstown tennis program’s continued success is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and they will be looking to carry their momentum into the state tournament as they aim for more titles and accolades.
