Jais Chat, an Arabic chatbot developed in the UAE, is revealed

Core42, a unit of Abu Dhabi’s artificial intelligence and cloud company G42, has unveiled a groundbreaking bilingual Arabic and English chatbot called Jais Chat in the UAE. This innovative app, available for free download on iPhone devices, is proficient in both Arabic and English languages.

Developed with an Arabic-centric model for efficient processing of Arabic text, Jais Chat offers a familiar interface to users who have used OpenAI’s ChatGPT or Microsoft’s CoPilot. Users can interact with the chatbot using various prompts to get answers, gather information, and find solutions that may be challenging to obtain through traditional search engines.

Based on G42’s large language model for Arabic, Jais, Jais Chat utilizes ‘Jais 30B’, which is trained on a vast dataset comprising 126 billion Arabic tokens, 251 billion English tokens, and 50 billion code tokens. This extensive training enables Jais Chat to deliver unparalleled results in Arabic language processing and accuracy, while also providing top-notch English language processing capabilities.

Andrew Jackson, executive vice president and chief AI officer at Core42, expressed excitement about the app’s potential, stating, “With its Arabic-first approach, Jais reshapes how bilingual individuals interact with technology, and with Jais Chat for mobile, we are delivering the advancement in our mission to democratize AI access for the world.”

Future iterations of Jais Chat are expected to include document processing, voice conversation capabilities, and enterprise support with subscription models for businesses seeking customized functionalities. The app’s name, Jais, pays homage to the UAE’s highest peak in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
