Jaishankar expresses disappointment with agencies’ lack of probe-worthy information on Nijjar case

India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has made a statement regarding the recent arrest made by Canada in the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Jaishankar mentioned that India has not received any specific and worthy information that would warrant an investigation by Indian probe agencies.

During a press conference, Jaishankar expressed that if Ottawa has any evidence or information related to violence that is relevant to be investigated in India, New Delhi is open to cooperating. He emphasized that there has been no substantial information provided to Indian investigative agencies regarding the case.

The recent arrest in connection with Nijjar’s killing involves a fourth Indian national, Amandeep Singh, who has been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. This comes after three other Indians were previously arrested in relation to the high-profile case that has strained relations between India and Canada.

Nijjar, 45, was fatally shot outside Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia in June 2023. The ongoing developments in the case highlight the complexities surrounding the investigation and the diplomatic implications it carries for both countries.
