Despite facing challenges such as travel advisories and global economic uncertainties, Jamaica’s tourism sector is thriving, with official tourist arrival numbers exceeding expectations. Senior advisor Delano Seiveright expressed his optimism, noting that as of the first week of May, the country had welcomed 1.7 million tourists, a 4.6 percent increase in stopover arrivals and a whopping 23 percent increase in cruise passengers compared to the same period in 2023.
Seiveright acknowledged the impact of external factors like travel advisories and economic headwinds but credited Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett and his team for implementing successful strategies post-Covid. He emphasized the importance of continuous efforts to drive growth in the tourism industry, despite ongoing challenges.
In response to the recent Level 3 US Travel advisory, Seiveright highlighted the government’s proactive approach in engaging with US officials to address concerns and ensure the safety of tourists. He stressed the need for persistence and collaboration with key stakeholders to sustain Jamaica’s tourism growth.
The Jamaica Tourist Board is also working tirelessly with international partners to promote tourism and overcome obstacles. With a dedicated team and strategic initiatives in place, Jamaica remains a top destination for travelers, showcasing resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
