James Gunn Debunks Conspiracy Theory Claiming He Was Planning On Not Re-Casting Henry Cavill For A Long Time

The exit of Henry Cavill from the DC Universe after James Gunn and Peter Safran took over has left many fans disappointed. There have been theories circulating that Gunn knew about Cavill’s re-casting even before it was officially announced. The speculation arose when Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardener in the new Superman movie, mentioned that James informed him about his role during The Suicide Squad premiere party in 2021.

Gunn and Safran’s takeover of DC Studios in 2022 marked the beginning of significant changes within the franchise. The decision not to bring back Henry Cavill as Superman was met with backlash from fans who were hoping to see him reprise the iconic role.

The controversy surrounding Gunn’s alleged knowledge of Cavill’s ousting intensified when Nathan Fillion’s comments sparked theories that James was aware of his new DC co-head role and the decision to replace Cavill. Some even went as far as calling the director a liar.

In response to the speculation, James Gunn took to social media to clarify the situation. He explained that his intention was always to create a new Superman story and that he had no interest in rebooting the character or excluding Henry Cavill from the project.

As the debate continues, Henry Cavill’s future in the DC Universe remains uncertain, while James Gunn’s Superman movie, starring David Corenswet, is set to hit theaters in 2025. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
